Placing Hydrogen at the Heart of a Nation's Energy Transition

Talan Expertise Makes the Difference
What you should remember about this transformation? Talan provides the secretariat for a national hydrogen trade association, delivering policy leadership, fostering collaboration within the industry and working with the government to develop the regulatory frameworks to unlock investment in hydrogen.
Accelerating the hydrogen transition in a changing market
In a country undergoing an energy transition, our client is leading the debate on the role that hydrogen can play in a Net Zero energy system. As the leading voice for the sector, it brings together over a hundred member companies around a common vision: making hydrogen a central pillar of national decarbonization.
The energy sector faces major, complex, and interconnected strategic challenges:
- The need to create policy frameworks to develop business models for production and unlock investment in hydrogen projects.
- Balancing the power system, utilising hydrogen storage and hydrogen power generation alongside renewables to deliver a clean power system.
- Reducing costs across the production, distribution, storage and use of hydrogen to reduce the subsidy burden, enabling hydrogen to scale.
- Decarbonizing hard to abate sectors such as industry, heavy duty transport, maritime, aviation, SAF and power.
In this demanding context and in light of the urgent climate goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement, hydrogen emerges as a promising alternative to fossil fuels. However, this transition faces significant obstacles: high production costs, insufficient infrastructure, and an uncertain regulatory framework.
The challenges faced by the association in promoting hydrogen:
- A challenging fiscal environment with an unstable global trade landscape, limited public finances and rising supply chain costs.
- A complex regulatory environment requiring coordination from industry to develop necessary frameworks.
- A debate around the role of hydrogen with competing narratives and views on hydrogen’s centrality in certain sectors.
- A necessity to raise awareness among all stakeholders about the transformative potential of hydrogen.
The Positive Impact of Talan:
The association has been able to establish its position as the leading voice of the sector and work with the government and industry to kick start the deployment of solutions.
